THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is seeking a full-time career oriented Water Planning Biologist. Position will be located at the Centre Region Office at Bellefonte, PA.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The biologist in this... position will primarily conduct environmental reviews to evaluate the impact of a variety of water use programs on fish, aquatic life, reptiles, amphibians, and recreational fishing and boating under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC). Responsibilities include performing reviews and developing PFBC's position on water allocation permits, instream flow studies working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP), Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC).

Review and Comment on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission hydropower license and license exemption applications. Integrate results with the PFBC Division of Fish Production concerning hydropower licenses on lower Susquehanna River dams.

Serve as PFBC liaison to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Game Commission, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, other state fish and wildlife agencies, various municipalities and developers on matters related to hydropower development.

  • Full-time employment.

  • Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch period.

  • You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bellefonte.

  • Part-time telework eligible upon successful completion of probationary period.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Fisheries Biologist 1;OROne year of professional experience conducting fish studies, fish investigations, or fish research and a bachelor's degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 credits in fish biology, fish ecology, fisheries management, ichthyology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, limnology, aquatic ecology, aquatic entomology, water quality or other course closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology;ORAn equivalent combination of experience and training that includes a bachelor's degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 credits in fish biology, fish ecology, fisheries management, ichthyology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, limnology, aquatic ecology, aquatic entomology, water quality or other course closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology.
