Overview

This position is remote through early September.

Effective Monday, September 13th, this position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week.

DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Principal & Major Gifts (PMG) is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and close of $2 million–5 million in revenue annually.

Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

Dana-Farber is pursuing an ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign.

This $2 billion campaign is the largest in the Institute’s history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer.

Requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee fundraising for specific disease centers and/or research areas with an anchor in genitourinary oncology, and represent Institute priorities;

Qualify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and manage portfolio of 100-150 $100,000+ rated prospects, with emphasis on $1 million+ opportunities and close on at least $2 million-5 million in the first full year;

Conduct 8-10 donor visits monthly;

Work strategically with Assistant Vice President (AVP) of PMG, Institute leadership; faculty, staff, Trustees, and Division colleagues to accomplish goals;

Track prospect and donor activity in ClearView database; provide activity and revenue reports as requested;

Collaborate with colleagues in other units, including Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate Partnerships, Foundation Relations, Donor Relations, and Jimmy Fund to maximize donor engagement and philanthropic commitment;

Assist in planning of special events and forums as assigned, including annual Presidential Symposium, and monthly Beyond the Breakthroughs events.

Responsibilities include coordinating faculty presentations, communication with co-chairs and attendees/ members, and follow up;

With AVP of PMG, develop annual fundraising goal; mid-year revision, and year-end reporting as requested;

Develop and recommend policies and recommendations to enhance fundraising;

Travel to represent Dana-Farber as needed;

Complete other special projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to an Assistant Vice President of Principal & Major Gifts.

Based on portfolio assigned, may manage one Assistant or Associate Director level fundraiser.

Shared supervision of one Assistant.

Works independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required with 8-10 years’ experience with a track record of successful major gifts solicitations in $100,000+ and preferably $1 million+ donor category.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and managerial capabilities, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks also required.

Fundraising experience in a healthcare setting a plus.

Public speaking experience and effectiveness necessary, along with the ability to communicate and work with people of all levels.

Must exercise significant judgment and confidentiality in working with prospects, volunteers and Institute staff.

Some travel and evening and weekend work may be required.

Microsoft Office Suite familiarity necessary.

This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events.

Experience with diverse donors is a plus.
