Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired specializes in providing services for students who are blind and visually impaired to local school districts throughout California.

Our Teachers of Visual Impairments (TVI) have schedule flexibility, low caseloads, and administration support who specialize in vision loss and understand the many demands of teaching.

Working for Vista Center is unique because our teachers are never case managers and have the full support of a 360 vision team, including Orientation & Mobility Specialists, social workers, peer TVIs, ophthalmologists, and more!

We are looking to fill two positions: one remote position and one in person position.

The in-person TVI will work in these possible areas: Campbell, Mountain View, or Alameda County (will vary depending on TVI location).

Positions are available as either full time, part time, or contractor.

Our... Mission: Vista Center empowers individuals who are blind or visually impaired to embrace life to the fullest through evaluation, counseling, education and training.

Teachers of the Visually Impaired work with students in the educational environment, teaching special skills such as braille and adaptive technologies.

Other responsibilities include adapting materials to assist the teaching of academic subjects, developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), providing teacher in-services, ordering materials, aiding students to develop social and daily living skills, and collaborating with other professionals to design and implement interventions appropriate to students' unique needs.

Responsibilities:Provide direct and consultative instruction for students with visual impairments, ages 2 to 22Provide education and support to student familiesCreate and attend Individual Education PlansAdminister assessments and craft corresponding report such as FVA, LMA, and IEP progress notesMaintain data collection and student recordsCommunicate and collaborate with district teachers and staff, parents, service providers, and administrationRequirements:Hold current teaching credential for visually impaired or be eligible to apply for an intern VI credentialEffective communication skills, written and verbalAble to work with a group of professionals and coordinate multiple schedulesAble to transport between multiple work-sites on a daily basisKnowledge of childhood development and special learning needs of children who are visually impairedAble to modify and adapt classroom materials, equipment, and classroom environmentAble to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with children and their families.
