Reporting to the Sr. Manager of DS and ultimately VP of Growth, you will be the lead independent contributor of the Data Science team, responsible for ideating, developing and deploying self-sourced high impact Data and ML projects within the Data Science org at Apartment List. You will also be expected to consult with and support cross-functional teams throughout the company from Product, Business Strategy and the Go To Market team. You will directly mentor other members of the DS team and Data Analysts in other orgs. Some of your closest collaborators will be the Data Engineering and platforms teams, tied to the goal of accelerating and streamlining our ML development cycle. You will be an evangelist for a stronger data-driven organization.
Here's What You'll Do As The Sr. Data Scientist
- Contribute to DS vision and roadmap to make both data and its application our competitive advantages
- Work closely with data engineering to accelerate ML development
- Build and Deploy... End-to-End ML models quickly for our team and our partners in other orgs
- Democratize the adoption of Machine Learning at Apartment List by creating ML resources for use by other teams, e.g. by creating an ML feature-store
- Coauthor Data Science processes with R&D stakeholders that mitigate business risk while allowing us to be as agile as possible in adopting new products and features. Create new methodologies/protocols that Improve experimentation velocity without sacrificing statistical rigor
- Communicate broadly, clearly and often to a spectrum of audiences from frontline engineers to executives the results of Data Science projects and initiatives - generate excitement and reinforce stakeholder support

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be successful:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Quantitative field, e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Mathematics
- 3-6 years of experience in data science or data engineering
- Self-starter: you and the head of data science will develop strategy and roadmap together for the team
- High level of expertise in data pipeline design and ETL, working with Airflow or similar orchestration tools
- Track record of developing and deploying Data Science and ML projects on time
- Analytically and technically fluent - you can articulate the problem space, alternate solutions, opportunity leaderboard and trade-offs with senior engineers while understanding the analytics implications
- Prototyping in Jupyter notebooks
- Risk Analysis and Opportunity Sizing
- Computer Science Foundations, algorithm development and scaling
- SQL/Hive/Presto proficiency and familiarity with Data Warehouses like Snowflake or BigQuery
- Experience of monitoring/dashboarding (datadog), codebase management (git), and event logging (Segment, GA360)
- Python Coding should be of a high standard, ability to solve problems, create packages and functions, classes, where appropriate
- Knowledge of and effective utilization of Data Science Toolkits [Jupyter, Numpy, SQLAlchemy, Pandas, SciKits, XGBoost, Keras/PyTorch]
- Build End-to-End Custom ML Cloud Compute Solutions e.g. AWS / GCP
- Experience of Experimentation Design, Execution, and Analysis -AB testing Metric/Guardrails, concepts of power and significance
