Overview

Blackhawk is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to support its growing incentive business in the United States. You would be responsible for completing commercial agreements with some of the biggest global entities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and internal policies and operations.

You would be part of a global team of dedicated legal professionals... reporting to Blackhawk’s VP of Legal for the United States Incentive unit. The position can be located anywhere in the United States with the exception of Colorado with a preference near an office: Lewisville, Texas or Fenton, MO or Portland, ME or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

You are business-minded, solutions-oriented, confident, and trustworthy. You are a team player yet can work independently, with little day-to-day oversight. You have excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to manage changing priorities and a broad range of legal requests. You are passionate about client service, delivering practical legal results, and helping grow Blackhawk’s business with efficiency and excellence. Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations and Blackhawk policies and procedures
  • Mitigating legal risks
  • Managing external counsel from time to time
  • Keeping the VP of Legal up to date with respect to all material legal matters
  • Some travel may be required from time to time, including to California or other United States offices

Qualifications

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage projects and competing priorities, stakeholders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Energetic self-starter with demonstrated initiative, exceptional business judgement and creativity
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal clients, external counsel and the global Legal team
  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, legal ethical rules, guidelines and compliance requirements
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, propose effective solutions and understand and apply vision and direction

Education/Experience

  • Licensed to practice law in any state in the United States
  • 7-8 years as a corporate lawyer, with experience at a top law firm
  • Some experience with negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, including those related to technology-related products and services
  • Experience in payments and banking would be a significant asset
