developer internship part time tech

Job Details

Please note that since we are an early-stage startup run by college students, this position will be an UNPAID part-time intern position. We are also seeking people for a 10-15 hour commitment per week that are available to start immediately, so please apply only if you are fine with these terms.

At Squirl Financial, an early-stage startup founded by a team of 3 college students in January 2020, we're designing a revolutionary algorithmic stock trading platform to automate options trading through the use of modular trading strategies. These strategies incorporate technical analysis, fundamental analysis, sentiment analysis of recent news headlines, and consider alternative data sources in order to decide if there is an edge in taking a position in a specific stock. We aim to construct a set of strategies that will work in various market conditions and to eventually create an automated robo-advisor that outperforms the S&P 500. Additionally, with these various kinds of market data that... we have been collecting, we are developing a set of tools for data visualization, analysis, aggregation, and prediction to help options traders make insightful data-driven trade decisions. We currently have a couple of these tools created including a short squeeze predictor and options greeks visualizer. However, the overall public facing website needs to be improved to accommodate other tools in the future. Additionally, in this role, you may contribute towards the development of other internal websites we are currently developing.

Your role would be to work with the rest of our web development team and UI/UX designers to develop all of the frontend aspects (HTML, CSS, JS, and React). Ideally you would have some amount of full-stack development experience with Flask, but that isn't a hard necessity.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • A working knowledge of frontend web development with React
  • Experience with making websites look nice and functional
  • Some level of exposure to presenting data visualizations in easily interpretable formats
  • Dedication to producing quality code that follows best practices
  • Exposure to the stock market and options trading is not a necessity, but a very big plus

Perks of joining our team:

  • Flexibility to work whenever you want (apart from weekly team check-ins and bi-weekly mentorship sessions)
  • Exposure to working with a team that will be following the agile development methodology to rapidly iterate and grow
  • Ability to contribute to the design and development of a product that could be used by thousands of people
  • Joining an up-and-coming startup with plans to disrupt the financial services sector
  • Being surrounded by a team with over 15+ years of combined development experience and 30+ years of trading experience
  • Mentorship to grow as a software engineer and as a stock/option trader
  • Potential to grow within our company through further projects
