Job Summary
The BI Platform Administrator would be working as part of a highly technical team providing expertise and administration services in multiple data management (ETL/ELT/Data Virtualization/Data Quality/MDM/Metadata Mgmt.) and analytics (BI/Stats/ML) technology platforms. With cross training and cross-functioning the position offers great growth opportunities.
In this role, we are looking for a technology leader in BI platforms to lead our strategy in Power BI adoption as administrator along with joining hands with team members in administration of Tableau and Business Objects.
Responsibilities
- Designs, builds and supports Microsoft PowerBI and other BI/Data Management platform by executing any complexity tasks ensuring functionality, accessibility and security of the platform.
- Plans, schedules and performs patching and upgrade tasks of platforms. Performs system backup and recovery procedures
- Monitors the BI platform utilization patterns for user feedback... management reporting and future planning. Forecasts utilization patterns and recommends capacity changes. Tracks license compliance. Tracks and reports system performance metrics.
- Monitors, analyzes system performance and suggests configuration changes for optimal performance in any complexity scenarios. Establish and maintain performance baselines, troubleshoot performance issues and provide recommendations/fixes for identified issues.
- Recommends and implements continuous improvement and automation of tasks.
- Advance the adoption of BI ‘best practices’ across the company. Supports and establishes standards for platform usage. Maintains user knowledgebase. Reviews troublesome workbooks and datasources and provides suggestions to users for improvements.
- Interfaces with BI developers and provides consulting services on PowerBI capabilities. Interfaces with business point of contacts in setup of applications and providing support and operational management of the PowerBI environment. Interfaces with Microsoft support personnel for BSC projects and operational assistance.
- Collaborates and Interfaces with storage, server, authentication, database and other server/platform engineers / administrators to support ongoing operations for meeting the business needs via the PowerBI platform.
- Executes actions necessary to achieve and maintain optimum BI platform performance, reliability and availability in serving the analysis needs.
- Executes different work streams. Manages the metadata security configuration, licensing and the configuration of services and that comprise the BI environment.
- Actively participates in cross training, self-learns and expands into supporting other technologies supported by the group.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Requires 5 to 7 years of professional experience directly related to BI.
- At least 2 years of focused Power BI administration experience and total 4+ years of PowerBI experience.
- In-depth experience with design & development of Power BI visual reports, dashboards and data models.
- Experienced at writing DAX queries.
- Ability to design and model datasets for reporting and visualization.
- Ability to recommend best practices of development and critique design approaches.
- Advanced knowledge of Power BI architecture and platform administration functionalities.
- Ability and experience in managing premium capacity for enterprise usage.
- Advanced knowledge of performance diagnosis and optimization. Be able to analyze system resource utilization, bottlenecks and plan platform capacity sizing.
- Experienced at implementing row level security on data and security models in Power BI.
- SQL, Python, PowerShell, Splunk skills are preferred for productivity.
- Experience in previous administration of other BI and data management platforms like Tableau, Business Objects, SAS, Informatica, Denodo or AI/ML platforms (Python, RapidMiner) in mid-large enterprise environment is highly preferred to enable cross functioning and holistic approach to solutions even beyond Power BI.
