Job DescriptionZendesk is looking for a UI designer who is enthusiastic about making productivity software as beautiful and usable as consumer apps. As a Senior Visual UI Designer in the Design Systems group, you will be part of the team responsible for shaping the future of Zendesk’s product design language and ensuring the spirit of our brand is reflected in product. This is a creative and collaborative role in which you will work closely with other UI, brand, and product designers, product managers, and engineers to ensure our products look and feel as expressive, beautiful, and charming as our brand.The day-to-day* Use the spirit of the Zendesk brand to explore new ways of engaging our customers in our products* Collaborate with a cross-functional team-designers across product and brand, product managers, and engineers-on the next generation design language* Join forces with the Product Design and Brand Identity teams to develop visual design principles for how the brand is... expressed in our products* Collaborate with visual and motion graphic designers to develop and maintain guidelines for a cohesive customer experience* Design micro interactions, transitions and animation for product touchpoints* Design icons, components and asset libraries, including documentation* Remain current on industry and design trends as it relates to branded product experiences* Assist team members across product design in better incorporating brand sensibilities within their own work through office hours, critiques, individual working sessions, and reviewing workThe bigger pictureCustomer experience is an important part of Zendesk’s success, heck it’s what we are in the business of doing best. You will work iteratively to transform Zendesk into a best-in-class product suite. Most importantly, you will help the rest of the product design org adopt the new design language through the creation of standards and guidelines, and reviewing work through async office hours, critiques, and pairing. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic collaborator, loves being in the pixels, and enjoys the process of getting new work out into the world.The best part is that you’ll have a whole team to work with - skilled designers, writers, photographers, strategists, producers, as a start - to make sure the work is fresh, exciting, and on-brand.QualificationsBasic* 4+ years working as a visual UI designer* 1+ years experience working with an existing design system* A portfolio that showcases your work, provides detail of your project roles, and shows examples of functional designs demonstrating high degrees of accuracy and attention-to-detail, that you have developed from start to finishPreferred* Strong sense of design principles, typography, layout, and conceptual skills* Comfortable adapting to and building on Zendesk’s brand* The ability to easily understand the ramifications of design decisions on a global level* The ability to rationalize UI design choices, along with pragmatism when visual conflicts require alternative approaches* Understanding of interaction design principles on the web and familiar with accessibility standards* A thirst for learning about modern, emerging web UI patterns* Proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools* Nice-to-have: Skill or passion in any creative area beyond digital design, ex: illustration, prop-making, papercraft, painting, photographyNote: Only applications submitted with a portfolio will be considered.Attributes we’re looking forHumorWe have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves.
