Job DescriptionZendesk is looking for a Senior Paralegal, Intellectual Property to join its growing world-class legal team and support the patent, trademark, copyright, open source, and domain name function. This position is critical in supporting Zendesk's growing IP portfolio and processes and will work closely with the engineering, product, marketing, and brand teams.!This role reports to the Senior Counsel of Intellectual Property who leads the IP function for the Legal team.Responsibilities (what you get to do every day):Work closely with the Zendesk IP team to execute Zendesk's intellectual property strategyEstablish and maintain internal practices, procedures and technology for coordinating and streamlining patent and trademark-related information, filings, and deadlinesProvide foundational support for trademark enforcement program through managing review, analysis, research and recommendations associated with watch notices; maintaining a trademark enforcement docket; and... driving momentum to successful resolutionWork with Zendesk's web and marketing teams to ensure appropriate use of trademark names and symbols, and periodic updating of Zendesk's trademark guidelinesCollaborate with Zendesk's engineering, product, marketing, and brand teams to collect information and materials in support of Zendesk's patent and trademark filing programsCoordinate open source scanning efforts and intake of potential open source contributionsDraft takedown notices for third party websites that infringe Zendesk's intellectual propertySupport the Zendesk IP team in periodic analyses of patent and trademark spend along with recommendations for cost savings and value maximizationSupport Zendesk's Legal Operations team in the management of billing operations, including opening new matters and crafting reports using e-billing software (SimpleLegal)Provide general administrative support for Zendesk's IP programs and for internal training programs to build awareness of the importance of intellectual property and to drive best practices to both leverage and protect those assetsMinimum Qualifications7+ years substantive intellectual property paralegal experience, preferably both at a law firm and in houseExperience gathering evidence and supporting materials in support of trademark prosecution and enforcement efforts, or otherwise gathering evidence for general legal mattersExperience in patent docketing, implementing IP systems, and trademark protection and enforcementOrganized, detail-oriented, and ability to balance multiple pressing prioritiesExperience with Google Workplace (G Suite)Appreciation of the impact of a highly satisfied, excited team and enjoyment of working across multiple time zones and culturesNatural curiosity, technical savvy, and a real passion for working in a customer focused company where business, technology and law intersectMentality that no task is too big or too smallExcellent decision-making skills with a knack for identifying, prioritizing, and articulating the highest impact initiativesAbout Zendesk - Champions of Customer ServiceZendesk started the customer experience revolution in 2007 by enabling any business around the world to take their customer service online.
