Aclaimant is hiring a Product Designer to refine and deliver features that help our customers manage their risk and keep their employees safe on the job. This includes everything from polishing the look-and-feel of our user interface and coding it in HTML and CSS to writing Help Center documentation and customer-facing feature announcements. Working on a team with one or two developers, you will own the user experience and ensure that the finished work solves our customers’ problems as defined in the project brief.

We believe in getting to the real thing quickly so we don’t spend time on elaborate wireframes or pixel-perfect mockups. We prefer rough sketches and basic working HTML prototypes to validate ideas and discover unexpected complexity as we go. We’re a distributed product team so clear, concise written communication is important. But we also frequently collaborate in real-time, so you should be comfortable pairing up with team members during screen-sharing sessions. Altogether the company is split about 50/50 between Chicago and remote across the contiguous U.S. This is only our third design hire, so you’ll have a say in how we work and grow this team. What You'll Do:

  • Design product features and writing supporting microcopy
  • Collaborate with software engineers to develop the fully functional
  • feature
  • Code the user interface in Reagent, a templating language which
  • should be easy to learn if you’re familiar with standard HTML
  • Ensure quality by testing your work yourself and with the help of a QA
  • analyst
  • Write help center documentation and feature announcements
  • Investigate time in improving our design system, which includes our
  • typography, color palette, components, and layout framework

  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills and is confident

  • Understands the capabilities and limitations of JavaScript and singlepage

  • Has high standards for how your designs look and work but also strives
  • to ship quickly and iterate frequently based on feedback
