We are... looking for a talented, manager to join the USA TODAY Network's Digital Optimization Team.
This person will manage day-to-day operations of their respective Digital Optimization Team to achieve growth at each stage of the audience funnel.
A strong communicator and collaborator, they partner with newsrooms and other News teams to execute strategies and tactics that are guided by insights and data.
While primarily responsible for their team development and performance, they will also work alongside their team to create, optimize, and promote content for the region.
Passionate about great journalism, they are highly engaged in growing audience, highly organized, and with a drive to win on all platforms.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who is comfortable leading through change.
This is a critical moment as we transform into a subscription supported business.
Typical Job Duties:
Leads, develops and mentors team members
Communicates goals and coaches team members to help align tactics with strategies to achieve our engagement, reach and subscriber conversion benchmarks
Monitors performance and KPIs of respective local markets; amplifies what’s winning and troubleshoots/addresses areas of opportunity
Establishes and maintains a candid relationship with respective local market editors and their newsrooms to understand challenges and opportunities
For big breaking news, tentpole events and projects, assist in any area of DOT specialization (optimization, SEO, social or content creation) to lead the team in collaboration with the newsroom to outstanding and ambitious coverage on all platforms.
Facilitates ongoing conversations between the digital producers and newsrooms aboutconnecting our best journalism with its audience to drive results in reach, engagement and subscriptions.
Coordinating with the director and Network partners to develop team training that supports audience building goals.
Partner with recruiting to maintain a pipeline of diverse candidates.
Knowledge and Skills:
Expertise in local content creation, optimization and distribution
Exceptional core journalism skills (reporting, producing, editing, ethics)
Advanced knowledge of audience analytic tools
Advanced knowledge of social media and customer feedback tools, including how to respond and engage customers on digital platforms in the public space
Excellent coaching, conflict resolution and team-building skills
Exceptional planning and organizational skills
Self-motivation and self-direction
Excellent communicator; inclusive with an appreciation of diverse thoughts and opinions
Calm under pressure and able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment
Applies innovative, creative thinking to support the company’s goals
Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
Three to five years of digital news experience
Prior management experience and/or leading remote teams
Working Conditions:
Occasional travel may be required
News often requires employees to work extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays, sometimes unexpectedly
