Insider is hiring a Corporate Counsel to assist in supporting the tremendous growth of its editorial team. We’re looking for a lawyer with keen analytical and communication skills, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling whatever comes your way. You must be a team player who is excited by the prospect of supporting the First Amendment rights of our team, working directly with the newsroom.

This role will be positioned to be integral to that continued success as Insider continues to grow its legal team overseeing intellectual property, First Amendment, and litigation claims.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
● Provide legal advice to and train internal clients on issues related to news gathering and publication, including those involving First Amendment, defamation, privacy, access, and intellectual... property laws
● Conduct pre-publication review of content and support newsgathering activities around the world
● Manage global trademark portfolio including tracking status of existing and new applications, analysis and background research for new marks
● Respond to and pursue legal claims, specifically those relating to use of content protected by media and intellectual property laws, and propose method of resolution, including settlement terms or other courses of action
● Provide support on FOIA and other access-related requests, appeals, and litigation
● Respond to subpoenas and related requests
● Actively manage outside counsel, litigation budgets, invoices, and expenses
Requirements (knowledge, skills and abilities):
● Substantial experience in media law and intellectual property
● Experience in the areas of copyright, trademark, first amendment, and litigation
● Excellent negotiation and analytical skills
● Strong interpersonal skills: an ability to communicate with all levels of management and communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both oral and written format
● Self-starter, proactive, and commitment to following through
● Strong organizational skills
● Knowledge of digital media and related industries
Education and Experience:
● Bachelors required plus JD
● NY bar admission required
