PenFed is hiring a Remote Data Scientist Manager at one of the following locations: Dallas, Texas; and Frisco, Texas. The primary purpose of this job is to develop and evaluate models associated with PenFed's mortgage lending and servicing functions to quantify the organization's lending opportunity, fulfillment performance, market penetration, and evaluate the performance of established controls with guidance from management. Incumbent provides statistical input for the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs related to mortgage origination and servicing portfolio monitoring.   • Manage and mentor a small team of data analytics professionals, associates, and seniors. Manage the assignments and workload of all team members.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all of Real Estate data.
  • Promote innovative ways to visualize and digest complex data. Articulate, draft and compose accurate and detailed business requirements based upon future state analysis and design.
  • Identify opportunities to analyze business data with a consistent focus on increasing the ability of business team to make data-driven decisions.
  • Interact with and advises Management regarding origination and servicing issues; formulates product and operational strategy recommendations, and evaluates the operational risk in the overall loan manufacturing process.
  • Managed statistical and regression model development, validation and operationalization process. Ensure that business requiremetns are satisfactory met and adequate measurement feedback loops are impmemented.
  • Autonomous end-to-end statistical model creation, including but not limited to identifying objectives, compiling data, sampling/prepping data, feature selection, model comparison/selection, deployment and monitoring. Ensures adequate internal control processes around model development, implementation and validation are established.
  • Develop statistical models using advanced regression for production forecast, custom risk/performance scorecards with guidance, including but not limited to compiling data, sampling/prepping data, feature selection, model comparison/selection and monitoring.
  • Coordinate with other analysts, project managers and executives in real estate division as well as other divisions of credit union to ensure work requests are completed timely and accurately. Will be assisting in developing and mentoring other analysts on the team
  • Development, monitoring and maintenance of performance scorecards using machine learning and statistical method. Recommends and implements model changes to improve performance of origination functions.
  • Apply intermediate to advanced knowledge of financial processes and procedures, and routine modeling theories and techniques to create effective modeling solutions for a single or multiple business functions.
  • Participate in corporate projects as requested
  • Keep informed of new ideas and academic research within the industry, best practices, and regulatory developments through publications, membership in professional organizations and contact with other financial institutions
  • Assist management with maintaining PenFed's compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances by abiding by PenFed compliance program and all policies, procedures, rules and regulations

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Economics, Mathematics Required. Master Degree (or progress toward a Masters) in a quantitative discipline is highly preferred.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of Supervisory/Assistant manager experience. Strong Leadership skills.
  • Five years related work experience. Experience in using data to illustrate business performance, options and risks. Strong ability to develop materials and explain data to technical and non-technical end users of all levels of the company, from operational to C-level audiences.
  • Effective listening, critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Applied experience with Logistic Regression, Linear Regression, Time Series Analysis, Decision Trees, and Cluster Analysis.
  • Applied experience with Business Intelligence/Data Visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • Advanced programming skills to include knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. SQL, SAS, Python, and R).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and implement rapid changes in project direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, high competency in balancing multiple projects. Proven project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and organizational skills required with ability to work with all management levels.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
