The Urban Institute has built a cutting-edge in-house communications team that translates research for broad audiences through creative content and innovative engagement. To support these efforts, Urban’s digital communications team is hiring a web development product manager.

How... you’ll contribute:

The web development product manager will manage all aspects of website development at Urban Institute including discovery, information architecture, wire framing, design, site building and production, quality assurance testing, and user acceptance. The product manager will be responsible for ensuring that digital projects are completed to the specifications set by the team and that websites and other products meet the goals of researchers, communications staff, and our audiences. Reporting to the senior director of digital communications, the product manager will collaborate with researchers, a project manager, designer, Drupal developers, and content producers to deliver websites that promote the goals and research of the Urban Institute.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for websites created for large Urban Institute projects involving Urban researchers, external funders or partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead and apply discovery, user research, and competitive analysis to devise comprehensive and integrated digital strategies for our research teams and other partners.
  • Work with team members across disciplines, research teams, funders, and partners to ensure that everyone has a clear picture of project goals and objectives.
  • Identify and document the features and content types that will be part of product scope.
  • Develop strategy documentation including information architecture, user personas and journeys, and user experience.
  • Work with Design/UX team to get sign off from research teams on wireframes and interactive designs.
  • Participate in daily scrums, sprint planning meetings, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Demonstrate developed functionalities during sprint reviews.
  • Work with Sr. Director of Digital Comms and Digital Comms Analytics and Advertising manager to develop a plan for setting and measuring KPI's for each website.
  • Work with internal clients to validate the website meets the acceptance criteria and fits in with Urban’s design guidelines and user experience.
  • Oversee the creation of new feature and functionality for existing websites, including taking input from Comms staff and researchers on new site functionality, evaluate that input and work with producers and developers on implementation if necessary.

What you’ll bring:

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, computer science, information systems, or related fields; or equivalent work/education experience & 3-5 years of professional experience
  • Demonstrate experience leading design and development projects
  • Exhibit experience new website builds and/or website refresh
  • Show familiarity with analytics, SEO, accessibility and technology platforms (such as CMS', integrating with APIs, etc). Familiarity with Drupal CMS is a plus.
  • Display prior knowledge/experience with project management software and agile concepts. *A working knowledge of Jira is a plus
