UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. Further, UW-IT provides strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW's IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW.

UW Finance Transformation Technical (FTT) is a newly established program that will support the UW-IT... work on Finance Transformation, the University's large scale project to modernize its finance operations, business systems, and processes. FTT is currently looking for a Resource Manager who will support the UW-IT work on Finance Transformation.

This role is a critical team member who will help shape the direction, planning and resourcing activities to drive an efficient and effective program. This role will be the primary supervisor for resources assigned to matrixed workstreams in support of the FTT program. Manage and develop technology skills planning, technical resource allocation, team building, and professional development. The position is the intake for new hires, responsible for onboarding new team members, introducing them to the program, and providing training on current business processes and teams they will be supporting. Additionally, this position will need to develop and refine the onboarding process and material as the program progresses. This position will report to the program director.

This position requires an experienced manager to support the FTT program currently in the early stages of an enterprise-wide initiative to replace the existing financial systems with a modern, integrated system that will provide functionality to support UW finance needs. The outcome of FTT will be highly visible at all levels of the university and the state.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science discipline related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in information technology systems integrations, management, or operations
  • Experience managing and leading technical cross-functional teams in a complex organization
  • Ability to plan and sequence work and work streams in an ambiguous changing climate
  • Experience implementing enterprise programs
  • Management and project management skills to include demonstrated ability to set and meet goals, assess resource needs, formulate schedules, and communicate status
  • Business Analyst experience
  • Experience in training and/or facilitation within technical environment
  • Must be able to manage effectively under pressure, exercising independent judgement in resolving problems
  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


  • Master's Degree in Program/Project Management MBA
  • PMP certification
  • Master Training Specialist
  • Experience in a major research university
  • Ability to quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; is seen as a collaborator and team player, easily secures trust and support of peers and staff
  • Ability to appropriately scan environment and view organizational context; Demonstrates emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, agility, adaptability, and persuasiveness)


This position leads, manages and contributes to work in a collaborative team environment, supported through a shared working environment, scheduled and ad hoc meetings, and the use of a variety of development and communication tools. The incumbent may need to respond to staffing requirements for service incidents, outages, service or project needs, and respond to customer questions on a priority/urgency basis. The incumbent may need to work varied hours to meet priority project milestones and other externally imposed deadlines and to accomplish work assignments on which the activities of others depend. Occasional travel may be required.

This position on the Finance Transformation Project is temporarily funded; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.

This is an essential position and is required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations.

This position is eligible for flexible remote work by approval.
