Yelp is looking for a clever counselor to join its small but nimble legal team supporting an established consumer internet company in its efforts to connect millions of people with great local businesses. Yelp is a profitable, publicly-traded company with thousands of employees located primarily in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Germany.

This is a full-time position that can be based anywhere in the U.S., though we have large offices across the country at your disposal if you are local to them (e.g., San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Phoenix, Washington D.C.). Yelp’s legal team currently has lawyers in the Bay Area, Chicago, Austin, and Southern California.

Responsibilities

This role supports Yelp’s global human resources organization, providing critical counseling and support on a broad range of employment issues such as recruiting and hiring, wage and hour, pay equity, compensation and benefits, performance management, investigations, leaves of absence and accommodations, employment... and independent contractor classifications, and immigration. While many of these responsibilities will be relevant to our initiatives in the U.S., this role will also be the primary point person for all matters relating to our international operations as we expand our hiring abroad. As is true of all legal team members, successful candidates will also be interested in and capable of tackling new areas of law and projects for which they may not be directly responsible, allowing them to grow and develop while helping their colleagues at the same time.

This is a full-time remote position based in the United States.

What it takes to succeed:

• J.D., top law school with bar admission in good standing
• 5+ years’ experience with at least 3 years of employment law experience, including litigation support
• International experience is a big plus, particularly with Canadian and European laws
• Prior in-house experience is a plus
• Experience working cross-functionally with multiple teams of stakeholders
• Strong work ethic, sense of professionalism and discretion
• Trustworthy, optimistic attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves
• Excellent legal and business judgment; ability to think creatively about unique issues
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a rigorous devotion to detail and organization
