Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking an Associate Dean for Online STEM Programs specifically in the area of science including chemistry, biology, geoscience, and environmental science. The Associate Dean is responsible for supporting the operational needs, strategic direction and initiatives of Southern New Hampshire University's Global Campus. The Associate Dean will lead faculty as assigned.

The Associate Dean is responsible for ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of Global Campus and the University. The person working in this role is well-versed in and connected to the national conversation regarding higher education, particularly around learner outcomes, general education, workforce needs and different learning modalities such as competency-based education. In addition to being well-informed about higher education administration and learning models, they will engage with SNHU leadership on how to create operational excellence as... SNHU moves toward the next evolution of higher education learning environments. To be successful the Associate Dean must "know how to build the box and when to think outside of it".

The Associate Dean is adept at using data to support decision-making and continuous improvement. They will be proactive in enabling the continuous improvement process and works in close collaboration with other Associate Deans as their primary team, and with other stakeholders throughout the organization.

The Associate Dean is critical to ensuring a culture of excellence, while engaging in efforts to develop the next-generation ecosystem of content, technology, systems, value-add opportunities, delivery and faculty models, and assessment strategies as SNHU seeks to serve the needs of tomorrow's learners and employers. The Associate Dean will be assigned accountabilities (long-term, short-term, or special projects) based on:

  • Needs of the organization and/or a particular academic unit
  • Strengths; technical and behavioral skill-sets; and capacity
  • Knowledge or academic credential
  • Prior demonstration of performance excellence

Essential responsibilities of this position include the following:

Associate Dean's duties are enacted within two major categories of responsibility: Ensuring a Solid Foundation and Building Toward the Future.

Ensuring a Solid Foundation

The operational accountabilities of the Associate Dean are based on a combination of the following functions:

  • Faculty Recruitment, Management, and Support
  • Facilitate streamlining processes and operations to support the mission
  • Learner Success and Engagement
  • Accreditation, Governance, Policy Development and Enforcement, and Compliance Support (as necessary)
  • Team-based Culture Development, Support, and Success
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Quality Assurance across Curriculum, People, and Processes
  • Curriculum Development and Oversight

Building toward the Future

In alignment with the strategic priorities that will shape the success of Southern New Hampshire University, Associate Deans may support some combination of the following:

  • Keep abreast of current/future trends toward building educational opportunities for STEM students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have subject matter expertise in science including chemistry, biology, geoscience, and environmental science
  • Master's degree in a science discipline; Doctorate or terminal degree preferred
  • At least one year of related experience working in a similar role
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in online education
  • Demonstrated experience making data-driven decisions
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful administration of online degree programs and/or faculty
  • Prior experience managing a team preferred

Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed, which may include evenings and/or weekends depending on the project.
