Overview:

The z/OS Sysplex System Programmers are responsible for installing, customizing, and maintaining the Data Center’s Parallel Sysplex and z/OS operating system. In addition, their responsibilities include installing or upgrading all additional products that run on the system.

z/OS Parallel Sysplex technologies are fundamental to the Data Center high availability and continuous operating environment. Availability of information and information systems are critical to meeting its mission. Individuals in this position must show demonstrated understanding in planning, implementing and executing a Parallel Sysplex to achieve high availability and continuous operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning, configuring, and implementing a z/OS Parallel Sysplex.

Planning, configuring, customizing, and implementing various sysplex technologies.

Planning, installing, configuring, and implementing software products to execute in a high availability and continuous operation... environment.

Planning, configuring, and implementing hardware configuration definitions (HCD) in support of the Data Center hardware and software infrastructure.

Planning, installing, customizing, and implementing new hardware and software under z/OS in accordance with Data Center needs.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Processor Resource/System Manager (PR/SM) to run multiple operating systems in logically partitioned (LPAR) mode.

Planning, configuring, and implementing HCD in support of the Data Center FICON FC switch fabric.

Planning, configuring, and implementing HCD multiple sub channel sets in accordance with the Data Center’s needs.

Planning, configuring, and implementing HCD to support the Data Center’s requirement LPAR based coupling facility.

Planning, configuring, and implementing HCD single point of control for systems in a Sysplex.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Server Time Protocol (STP) in support of the Data Center Sysplex timing requirement.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Data Center’s requirement for automatic tape switching.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Multiple Image Facility (MIF) to enable logical partitions to share channel in accordance with the Data Center needs.

Planning, configuring, and implementing HyperPAV based dynamic PAV alias management.

Planning, configuring, customizing, and implementing ISPF in support of application developers and Production Control users.

Planning, configuring, and implementing JES2 multi-access spool (MAS) configuration in accordance with the Data Center’s need.

Planning, configuring, customizing, installing, and implementing job scheduling software in accordance with the Data Center’s needs.

Planning, configuring, and implementing cross system coupling facility (XCF) component of z/OS.

Planning, configuring, and implementing coupling facility resource management (CFRM), Sysplex failure management (SFM), workload management (WLM) and automatic restart management (ARM), system logger (LOGR) couple data sets.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Sysplex availability and recovery.

Planning, configuring, customizing, and implementing System Display and Search Facility (SDSF), TSO/E, ISPF and Program Development Facility (PDF) in support of application developers and Production Control needs.

Planning, configuring, and implementing ServerPac and Custom-Built Product Delivery Option (CBPDO) to install or upgrade software products.

Planning, researching and executing System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E) to install program temporary fix (PTF), cumulative PTF package, recommended service upgrade (RSU), and program update tape (PUT).

Planning, configuring, and implementing z/OS job management under Job Entry Subsystem (JES) integrated with batch service management software.

Planning, configuring, and implementing Global Resource Serialization (GRS) that ensures the integrity of resources in the Data Center’s multisystem Sysplex environment.

Planning, configuring, and implementing z/OS operations to ensure application performance and availability as well as enabling operators to perform their tasks in a productive manner

Planning, implementing and executing a disaster recovery plan that recovers 100% of the Data Center’s data and information systems in accordance with Data Center’s recovery time objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO).

Planning, configuring, and implementing z/OS Security Server Resource Access Control Facility (RACF) in a manner that allows security administrators to protect data and information from unauthorized access, loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Planning and executing z/OS trace processing in problem determination and resolution of software and hardware problems.

Providing technical assistance to application programmers in z/OS facilities such as using data sets, managing tape, system managed dataset life cycle, Unix System Services, in productivity tools such as FileAid/MVS, FileAid/RDX, AbendAid/MVS, in utilities such as Access method services (AMS) , Vision Results, JES2FTP, etc
